Senator Bernie Sanders has ended his presidential run, opening the way for former Vice-President Joe Biden to become a nominee for the Democratic Party.

On Wednesday, Mr. Sanders, 78, told supporters he saw no feasible way to get enough votes to secure the nomination.

The Vermont senator, an early front runner, achieved success with young voters, but in recent weeks slid behind Mr. Biden.

During this year’s electoral cycle, among the more left-leaning candidates, the self-described ‘Democratic Socialist’ advocated for policies such as healthcare for everyone, free public education, raising taxes for the rich, and raising the minimum wage.

Sanders, an Independent, had previously pursued the Democratic Presidential nomination back in 2016 but ended up losing to Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Sanders told supporters in a live stream:

If I believed we had a feasible path to the nomination, I would certainly continue,

Please also appreciate that not only are we winning the struggle ideologically, we are also winning it generationally.

The future of this country is with our ideas.
