In Italy, after five weeks of a coronavirus lockdown, shops selling children’s wear, bookshops, and newsagents were all allowed to reopen today.
As part of a closely regulated relaxing of the regulations that still involve social distancing and the enforcement of stringent hygiene standards, computer manufacturers and paper production companies are now starting to reopen again.
Some regions in Italy, which has become Europe’s worst-affected country so far, have also postponed their government’s decision to relax the restrictions in yet another sign of nervousness about the potential risks.
In Austria, where small stores, DIY and gardening centers were permitted to reopen, the same cautious approach was on view, although people are still required to stand 3 meters apart and wear a face mask.
Italy is hoping its numbers will continue going in the right direction, where more than 20,000 coronavirus fatalities have occurred after reports indicate a steady decrease in infections. The bulk of Italy’s lockdowns will stay in place until May.
