Spain: Prime Minister calls for COVID-19 lockdown to be extended to May 9

On Saturday, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that he would ask parliament to extend the nationwide lockdown until May 9.

Sanchez said he wished to loosen restrictions on children who would be allowed to leave their homes after April 27, altho this exemption would be “limited and subject to conditions to avoid contagion.”

Spain has already begun to ease the severe lockdown imposed on March 14, and several sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, have opened this week. However, most people continue to remain confined to their homes, only being allowed out for food shopping and other essential activities.
