Founders of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have again come together, this time to combat the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the United States. They have launched a website to display live data on the rate of COVID-19 spreading from person to person. Their RT.live website uses data to determine whether the virus has spread or not in a US state.
RT.live tracks the effective coronavirus reproduction rate (Rt) separately for all states and thus provides an estimate of the number of people infected by a single infected individual.
The data helps to look at a more region-specific approach to the spread of the virus, which has spread globally. The website can also help to explain the effect of authorities’ decisions on relaxing restrictions or imposing a more restrictive lockdown in real-time.
