China: More foreign coronavirus infections recorded despite travel restrictions

On Saturday, China’s northwestern Shaanxi province confirmed 7 new imported coronavirus cases, all of them citizens returning from China, even as domestic cases were largely curbed in their region.

China has put in place strict restrictions at its ports and borders and barred foreign citizens from entering its capital Beijing in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus.

China has already faced a constant stream of cases involving Chinese nationals returning home despite the given dangers of being infected. In recent days, many of these citizens have come back from Russia.

The new confirmed cases in Shaanxi were mostly Chinese people who arrived from Beijing on a flight from Moscow on 20 April. Through Saturday, according to the provincial health board, the flight had a confirmed total of 30 infections and 8 asymptomatic cases.
