European Union: Capital relief to be provided to banks to aid virus-hit companies

On Monday, sources announced that EU banks will receive capital relief to support companies dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and to prevent debilitating debt conditions affected by a looming deep recession.

The EU’s financial services chief, Valdis Dombrovskis, is expected to recommend this week that the European Union should “emulate in some form” a push by the Federal Reserve to allow banks to simplify the way they measure their leverage ratio.
