On Saturday, the foreign ministry announced that Shinzo Abe, Japan’s Prime Minister, will hold a coronavirus news conference on Monday

Abe is expected to prolong a national state of emergency that lasts until May 6, under which the government has demanded that restaurants and shops close. The lockdown also forces people to remain at home in a bid to avoid the transmission of COVID-19.
