Apple has officially unveiled a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Magic Keyboard. It will feature an optional 10th Gen Intel processor and will start at $1,299.
Apple has been working fairly quickly to move the butterfly keyboard out of the lineup. The 16-inch MacBook Pro was revealed in November 2019, followed last March by a revamped MacBook Air with Magic Keyboard. Apple has changed the entire laptop range with versions using better scissor-switch keyboards within just six months.
As with the last MacBook Pro, Apple has stuck to the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, plus a headphone jack. A Touch ID fingerprint sensor will also be included in the touch bar.
The RAM is upgradable to 32 GB with up to 4 TB of storage capacity. Apple says that 10th Gen Intel processors have a turbo boost up to 4.1Ghz and that the new Intel Iris graphics support the Pro Display XDR at full 6K resolution.
The $1,299 base edition now comes with 256 GB of storage capacity, up from the previous 128 GB edition. But the 10th Gen processor is absent and begins with 8 GB of RAM. An upgrade of 16 GB of RAM is available for $100, down from the $200 Apple charged on previous versions for the same upgrade.
The new MacBook is available for purchase now on Apple’s website and will launch later this week in select Apple stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. Educators can save $100 on the price of the base model.
