Governments and companies have been working to create apps and websites since the outbreak started, which will help people recognize and track COVID-19 symptoms.
India’s largest mobile network Jio, a Reliance affiliate, released its coronavirus self-test symptom checker at the end of March, shortly before the Indian government enforced a tight nationwide lockdown to avoid further coronavirus spread. The symptom checker lets everyone check their symptoms from their phone or Jio’s website to see whether they may have been COVID-19 compromised.
A recent security breach has leaked one of the main databases of the symptom checker to the internet without needing a password.
Jio reportedly took the leaked database offline soon after it was notified of the flaw. However, it’s unclear if a third party may have accessed the data contained in the database.
A Jio spokesperson, Tushar Pania, as quoted by TechCrunch, said:
“We have taken immediate action,”
“The logging server was for monitoring performance of our website, intended for the limited purpose of people doing a self-check to see if they have any COVID-19 symptoms.”
