In a podcast interview published Thursday, Tesla Chief Executive, Elon Musk, said that the company’s proposed Roadster sports car release would be delayed to improve other vehicle models.
Talking to Joe Rogan, Elon Musk doubled his criticism of US state-imposed stay-at-home orders in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Musk said lockdown directives from states were “unconstitutional” and wouldn’t stand up in front of the US supreme court if challenged. Earlier during Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call on April 29, he made these remarks calling restrictions “fascist.”
Once Rogan asked when he could purchase a Roadster, Musk replied that he was unable to provide a date and instead said that other projects, including a ramp-up in the development of Model Y sport utility vehicle and the creation of a vehicle factory in Germany, were Tesla’s main priorities.
Musk said in the podcast:
“Roadster is kind of like dessert,”
“We gotta get the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff.”
Musk also said that before working on the Roadster, Tesla should focus on producing the Cybertruck, the vehicle that became infamous on the internet during it’s failed release back in November.
In late 2017, Tesla revealed the Roadster, a battery-powered four-seater vehicle that would be quicker than any street-legal production car at the moment. In the past, Musk has said Roadster sales will begin after the introduction of an updated version of its Model S sedan, which was expected to be launched in late 2020.
Elon lightly focused on the topic of coronavirus, mainly focusing on Artificial intelligence and Neuralink.
