On Friday, Thailand confirmed Eight new cases of coronavirus but no deaths as of yet, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 3,000 cases and the death toll to 55.
Of the latest cases, three came from Yala’s southern province, where officials are vigorously testing the population due to high levels of infection, Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration announced.
The other five new cases are refugees detained at an immigration detention center in the southern province of Songkhla, Taweesin said. Over the last two weeks, the center has seen 60 more cases of coronavirus.
The continuing decline in coronavirus cases has forced the Thai government to begin easing lockdowns, which will help lift the burden on the economy and help businesses affected by the virus to recover.
