On Monday, before a decision was taken to relax restrictions further and to allow more business and leisure activity to restart after weeks of disruptions, New Zealand registered three new coronavirus infection s.
The decision to loosen restrictions and bring the country under warning level 2, allowing shopping, domestic travel, and local sports to resume, is scheduled to be announced very soon.
If the country moves to alert level 2, children will return to schools, and workers will return to offices, Ardern said. It would also encourage malls, cafes, hairdressers, and other services to re-open, but the country’s borders will remain closed except for the return of New Zealanders.
In a statement on Monday, the health ministry said that three coronavirus infections were recorded.
The cases, two hospital nurses, and one linked to overseas travel raises the overall confirmed COVID-19 infection toll in New Zealand to 1,147, the ministry said, adding that 93% of all confirmed and probable infections have recovered.
