China reported three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the mainland for May 23, the National Health Commission said in a statement on Sunday, after the first day without any new cases since the outbreak in China began.

Two of the new cases were imported while one was a local transmission, the NHC said.

Friday was the first time China did not record a single rise in the number of cases since the pandemic began late last year in central Wuhan.
