
Russian President, Vladimir Putin, made a shocking appearance in the Kremlin on Monday after officials reported that improving the coronavirus situation might allow Russia to reopen many tourist attractions and ease lockdown restrictions in many regions.
On Monday, 8,946 new coronavirus infections were confirmed by Russia, bringing its nationwide infection toll to 353,427. Officials also reported 92 new fatalities, pushing the death toll in the country to 3,633.
Moscow, Russia’s worst-hit region, is entering its ninth lockdown week. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said it is too early to abolish lockdown restrictions, but state registry offices in the Capital would be allowed to reopen from Monday.
Russia’s borders continue to stay closed, as are schools and most stores, with Prime Minister Michail Mishustin on Monday urging Russians not to travel abroad on holiday this summer.
