On Wednesday, the ministry of health announced that the number of coronavirus infections in India crossed 200,000, although a peak has still not been reached and may still be weeks away.
Cases jumped in one of the highest single-day spikes by 8,909 over the previous day, taking the total case toll to 2,07,615.
Government officials have stated earlier that it may be later this month, or even July before cases begin to decline.
The coronavirus death toll in India currently stands at 5,815.
