
After its introduction a week ago, Japan’s COVID-19 contact-tracing software has been downloaded more than 4 million times, as the government continues to try and fend off a second wave of infections amid schools and companies beginning to re-open.
According to an Oxford University study, software like this may be able to stop an outbreak if usage exceeds 60 percent of the population.
The app utilizes Bluetooth signals to detect contact with nearby users lasting 15 minutes or more, and if a person eventually tests positive for coronavirus, people they have been in contact with will be notified.
