Amazon has launched a new group watch party feature that allows Prime Video users to stream TV shows and movies with friends and family remotely. The feature is currently only available in the US but may roll out over time in more regions. Only 100 people can join a viewing group.
The new feature also includes an interactive chat function enabling the group to have conversations while watching a tv show or movie. Any tv show or movie that supports the feature will have a Watch Party symbol. Users may create a viewing room by clicking on the icon and then creating a custom URL.
The Watch Party session can only be started, stopped, or paused by the host, and will synchronize with all participants. The new feature is currently only available on desktop and does not support HBO content.
