On Wednesday, U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials announced that there was no evidence that foreign governments were trying to intervene with mail-in ballots for the Nov. 3 presidential election.
Previously, officials said that Russia, China, and Iran were involved in disinformation campaigns and other forms of interfering with the United States presidential election in which Donald Trump will seek a second term, although officials said these efforts were not targeting mail-in ballots.
During Trump’s 2016 election, security officials found that Russia used propaganda and hacking to boost votes.
Federal officials involved with electoral security concerns told a briefing that their work, including detailed consultations with local election officials, showed that interference with U.S. balloting activities would be “very difficult for foreign adversaries.”
