On Saturday, 308 new coronavirus infections were reported by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, marking the 16th day of three-digit increases, igniting fears about a scarcity of sickbeds.
As of Friday, hospitals of greater Seoul had just 4.5 percent of their hospital beds for critical cases, down from 22 percent a week ago. Approximately 24 percent of hospital beds for coronavirus were available, compared to 37 percent the week before.
Yoon Tae-ho, director general for public health policy at the health ministry, told a news briefing:
“Only about 15 beds are immediately available in the greater Seoul area for patients in critical condition as there were numerous patients who were in a serious condition and needed to be hospitalised,”
“But we should have a little more room shortly because more people are being released,”
