On Saturday, Portugal recorded 486 new coronavirus infections, marking the largest daily increase since May.
The newly reported infections bring the total coronavirus caseload in the country to 59,943.
In total, Portugal has reported just 1,838 coronavirus related fatalities, a significantly lower death toll than other European countries. Portugal originally received praise for its rapid reaction to the pandemic, although a recent surge of infections has prompted officials to re-impose select restrictions.
