On Wednesday, Fayez al-Sarraj, head of the Government of National Accord, announced that he aims to resign by the end of October and transfer power to a new executive authority.
Since being formed in 2015, following the 2011 revolt that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, Al-Sarraj has headed the GNA.
The deal comes just after a war in Tripoli between its strong militant forces and other Western Libyan rivals.
In a televised speech, Al-Sarraj claimed he wants to hand over authority to a new executive authority next month in scheduled talks between Libyan factions in Geneva.
Sarraj announced from the capital, Tripoli:
“I announce to all my sincere wish to cede my functions to the next administration before the end of October at the latest,”
