U.S. President Trump has approved a deal between Oracle and Walmart to keep Tiktok running in the United States, which has around 100 million active monthly users in the country.
Negotiants have been taking place for months regarding the security of American user data, with Bytedance, the owner of Tiktok, being repeatedly advised to sever ties with the company.
TikTok downloads in the United States were scheduled to be banned from midnight Sunday.
Trump told reporters before leaving for North Carolina:
“I can say that I have given the deal my blessing,”
“If they get it done, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s okay, too.”
“I approve the deal in concept.”
