On Thursday, French health authorities reported 16,096 new coronavirus infections as well as 52 additional fatalities, marking the highest daily increase in the country since the pandemic began.
The sharp rise in infections has prompted officials across the country to announce further restrictions in an attempt at controlling the disease.
