On Saturday, riot police working for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko detained clusters of protesters accusing the president of rigging the Aug. 9 presidential election.
Riot police were mobilized in the streets and detained more than 90 individuals protesting against Lukashenko.
Previously on Wednesday, in a ceremony held without notification, Lukashenko was sworn in for a sixth term, leading thousands to protests across the capital.
Closely associated with Russia, Belarus has been plagued by protests after officials announced that Lukashenko won with 80.23% of the vote.
Lukashenko repeatedly rejected vote-rigging allegations and claimed he had fallen victim to a Western smear campaign.
Opposing politician Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya released a social media statement against the riot police:
“We all deserve that our dignity and civil rights be respected,”
“We know this and that is why we cannot be stopped.”
