On Monday, officials announced that in hopes of loosening tight lockdown constraints, the Australian state of Victoria would pursue ways to improve testing for COVID-19.

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said in a briefing:

“We want everybody who has symptoms, regardless of their circumstances, to be able to get tested, we get their results and that’s how we can protect them and indeed, the entire community,”

“There is some work going on in the next few days to see if we can increase the number of people who are eligible and increase the number of people who can get those tests.”

In total, Australia has recorded 27,144 coronavirus infection and 894 fatalities.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 35 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.2 million fatalities across 188 countries and territories.
