On Thursday, hospitals in Paris were sent into emergency mode following a sharp rise in COVID-19 infections and an uptick of individuals in ICU’S.

Emergency mode will force all staff holidays and non-essential operations to be canceled.

A record surge in fresh coronavirus cases was announced by health authorities on Wednesday after 19,000 new infections were reported by health officials.

Aurelien Rousseau, Paris region health director, announced on Twitter:

“Given the pressure on emergency room beds and regular hospital beds, I have asked medical institutions in the region to activate their emergency plan to mobilise all resources and anticipate the coming days,”

There are 1,400 individuals currently in intensive care units.
