On Sunday, Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced that following a sharp rise in new COVID-19 infections, Italy is set to introduce new nationwide restrictions.
Speranza said in an interview:
“Now we need a change of pace, and to intervene with measures, not comparable to those adopted in the past, which could allow us to put the contagion under control and avoid tougher measures later on,”
Speranza said that a prohibition on private parties, including both children and adults, could come into effect.
To minimize the spread of COVID-19, Rome may adapt the opening times of bars and restaurants.
The new regulations are set to be discussed with regions on Monday.
