On Sunday, the Swill government revealed stricter controls to combat the country’s second COVID-19 wave, including the mandatory wearing of face coverings and a prohibition on large-scale public meetings.

From Monday, the new restrictions would include a prohibition on meetings of more than 15 individuals in public areas and the enforced wearing of face masks in all enclosed public areas, including train stations, airports, bus stops, tram stops, shops, banks, churches, and cinemas.

Swiss president Simonetta Sommaruga told reporters:

“The COVID-19 infection rate has increased at a very quick rate,”

“With winter coming it is very important to slow the spread of the virus now. Every day counts.”
