Canada: Confirmed COVID-19 cases surpass 200,000

On Monday, confirmed COVID-19 infections in Canada surpassed 200,000, marking a grim turning point that comes just as a second wave begins to sweep the country.

In total, Canada now has 201,225 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and 9,778 fatalities. More than 169,671 of the infected individuals have now recovered from the virus.

Canada has conducted 10.6 million tests for COVID-19.

The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 8.4 million infections and 224,948 fatalities, although India follows closely behind with 7.5 million cases and 115,223 deaths. As for the third-highest case toll and death toll, Brazil follows with 5.2 million cases and 153,982 deaths, Russia with 1.4 million cases and 24,366 deaths, and Spain with 1 million infections and 33,992 deaths.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 40 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 188 countries and territories.
