
On Saturday, the UK government reported 23,012 new COVID-19 infections and 174 additional fatalities, marking a rise of 2482 from yesterday’s 20,530 reported infections but a decrease of 50 from yesterday’s 224 reported deaths.
In total, the UK has reported 853,010 COVID-19 cases and 44,571 coronavirus related fatalities.
Over recent weeks, many European countries have reported sharp rises in new infections and fatalities, suggesting that a second wave is now sweeping across Europe.
The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 8.8 million infections and 230,007 fatalities, although India follows closely behind with 7.8 million cases and 118,567 deaths. As for the third-highest case toll and death toll, Brazil follows with 5.3 million cases and 156,903 deaths, Russia with 1.4 million cases and 25,821 deaths, and Spain with 1.1 million infections and 34,752 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 42 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 188 countries and territories.
