In an attempt at drawing tourists to the country, the tourism board of Kazakhstan has adopted the catch phrase “very nice” from the 2006 movie Borat in a series of short advertisements.
Previously in 2006, Kazakhstan banned the movie Borat after many claimed the actor who played Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen, promoted anti-Semitic and misogynistic practices in the country and displayed Kazakhstan as archaic, although Kazakhstan later thanked Cohen for boosting tourism in the country.
The tourism board published multiple short videos with the people in the video using the “very nice” catchphrase.
The short videos also displayed Khazakstan’s scenery and culture.
In a statement, Kairat Sadvakassov, deputy chairman of Kazakh Tourism, said:
“Kazakhstan’s nature is very nice. Its food is very nice. And its people, despite Borat’s jokes to the contrary, are some of the nicest in the world,”
Kazakhstan citizens have seemingly approved the short advertisements online and have said that the videos showed Khazakstan as a positive place.
