Paris: French government bans nighttime drink and food delivery following a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases

On Thursday, the French government announced that alcohol and food deliveries would be banned between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Paris.

Previously in October, non-essential shops were forced to close when French President Emmanuel Macron announced a second COVID-19 lockdown following a sharp rise in new coronavirus cases.

The sale of alcoholic drinks at night in Paris will also be banned from Friday.

Over recent weeks, France has been experiencing a sharp rise in new COVID-19 cases and coronavirus related fatalities.

In total, France has reported 1,601,367 COVID-19 cases and 39,037 coronavirus related fatalities.

The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 9.8 million infections and 240,388 fatalities, although India follows closely behind with 8.4 million cases and 125,029 deaths. As for the third-highest case toll and death toll, Brazil follows with 5.5 million cases and 161,269 deaths, Russia with 1.7 million cases and 29,509 deaths, and France with 1.6 million cases and 39,037 coronavirus related deaths.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 48 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 216 countries and territories.
