Japan: 2,301 new COVID-19 cases, 21 fatalities reported

On Friday, Japan reported 2,301 new COVID-19 cases and 21 additional fatalities, all of which occurred over the past 24 hours.

In total, Japan has reported 125,267 COVID-19 cases and 1,943 coronavirus related fatalities.

The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 12.2 million infections and 259,820 fatalities, although India follows closely behind with 9 million cases and 132,761 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6 million cases and 168,613 deaths, France with 2.1 million cases and 48,265 deaths, and Russia with 2 million cases and 35,311 coronavirus related deaths.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 57 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 217 countries and territories.
