As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6 million cases and 169,022 deaths, France with 2.1 million cases and 48,732 deaths, and Russia with 2 million infections and 36,179 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 58 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 217 countries and territories.
