As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6 million cases and 169,213 deaths, France with 2.1 million cases and 49,232 deaths, and Russia with 2.1 million infections and 36,540 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 59 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million fatalities across 217 countries and territories.
