The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 13.6 million infections and 272,254 fatalities, although India follows closely behind with 9.3 million cases and 136,705 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6.2 million cases and 172,561 deaths, Russia with 2.2 million cases and 39,068 deaths, and France with 2.2 million infections and 52,127 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 62 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.4 million fatalities across 217 countries and territories.
