As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6.3 million cases and 173,817 deaths, Russia with 2.3 million cases and 40,464 deaths, and France with 2.2 million infections and 53,506 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 64 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.4 million fatalities across 217 countries and territories.
