On Wednesday, Britain became the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine after Britain’s medicines regulator announced that the vaccine was safe for use and was ready for rollout early next week.

Who will get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine first?

At the moment, elderly care home residents and care home staff will be the first to receive the vaccine, as well as frontline medical workers and individuals over the age of 80 after the 800,000 vaccine doses are received from Belgium early next week.

The vaccine will then be available to individuals aged 80 to 50 as well as 16 to 64-year-olds with underlying health conditions, which put them at a significantly higher risk of having to be hospitalized with COVID-19 or dying from it.

The COVID-19 vaccine will be distributed via community medical centers and vaccination centers via two jabs given approximately three weeks apart.
