As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6.4 million cases and 175,432 deaths, Russia with 2.4 million cases and 42,176 deaths, and France with 2.2 million infections and 54,140 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 66 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.5 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
