The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 16.6 million infections and 306,153 fatalities, although India follows behind with 9.8 million cases and 143,393 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 6.9 million cases and 181,402 deaths, Russia with 2.6 million cases and 46,941 deaths, and France with 2.3 million infections and 57,911 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 72 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.6 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
