Tech: Apple closes select California stores following a rise in COVID-19 cases

On Friday, Apple announced that a select few of its California stores would shut following a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in California.

According to Apple, 12 stores in the state will close to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Apple announced on its website:

“We’re temporarily closing soon, but are currently open for pickup of existing online orders, previously scheduled in-store Genius Support appointments and previously reserved one-on-one shopping sessions with a Specialist made through Tuesday, December 22.”

The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 17.8 million infections and 320,380 fatalities, although India trails behind with 10 million cases and 145,171 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 7.1 million cases and 185,687 deaths, Russia with 2.7 million cases and 49,762 deaths, and France with 2.4 million infections and 60,229 deaths.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 75.9 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.6 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
