
On Saturday, confirmed COVID-19 cases globally crossed the 75 million mark, setting a grim milestone for the world.
The new milestone comes just as the world reported the highest ever 30-day rise in fresh COVID-19 cases after 18.65 new infections were reported by governments and health agencies around the world.
The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 17.9 million infections and 321,841 fatalities, although India trails behind with 10 million cases and 145,513 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 7.1 million cases and 185,827 deaths, Russia with 2.8 million cases and 50,347 deaths, and France with 2.4 million infections and 60,418 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 76.4 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.6 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
