As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 7.4 million cases and 191,146 deaths, Russia with 3 million cases and 54,778 deaths, and France with 2.5 million infections and 62,746 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 81.1 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.7 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
