As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 7.6 million cases and 193,875 deaths, Russia with 3.1 million cases and 56,426 deaths, and France with 2.6 million infections and 64,381 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 82.9 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.8 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
