As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 7.7 million cases and 195,742 deaths, Russia with 3.2 million cases and 58,002 deaths, and France with 2.6 million infections and 64,921 deaths.
The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 84.9 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.8 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
