Italy: 14,242 new COVID-19 cases, 616 fatalities reported

On Tuesday, Italy reported 14,242 new COVID-19 cases and 616 additional fatalities, all of which occurred over the past 24 hours.

In total, Italy has reported 2,303,263 COVID-19 cases and 79,819 coronavirus related fatalities.

Italy reported its first cases of COVID-19 on 31 January 2020 after two Chinese citizens tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The United States is currently leading global COVID-19 cases with over 23.1 million infections and 385,934 fatalities, although India trails behind with 10.4 million cases and 151,514 deaths. As for the third-highest caseload and death toll, Brazil follows with 8.1 million cases and 203,617 deaths, Russia with 3.4 million cases and 62,804 deaths, and the United Kingdom with 3.1 million infections and 81,960 deaths.

The novel coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, on Dec. 31, 2019, and has infected more than 91.5 million individuals worldwide, resulting in over 1.9 million fatalities across 218 countries and territories.
