On Wednesday, Spain announced the first coronavirus death since Sunday as the government requested the approval of the parliament for a final extension of the state of emergency in the country.
Spain was reporting over a thousand new cases and hundreds of deaths per day only a month earlier, crippling the health service.
Data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed a startling 155 percent rise in mortality at the Early-April height of the outbreak.
