China tells UK that ‘dumping’ Huawei will harm investment

On Wednesday, China warned Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, that its decision to exclude Huawei from its 5G network would cost Britain a great deal of money.

Shortly after Johnson instructed Huawei equipment to be removed off its 5G network by the end of 2027, Trump took responsibility for the announcement and said that if countries wanted to do business with the United States, they should block and not do business with Huawei.

Yet, when China saw London “dumping” the telecommunications company, China, whose 15 trillion dollars economy is five times as large as Britain, cautioned that the decision would harm investment.

Britain has become ever more dependent on Chinese imports. Around 9 percent of all the products brought into Britain in 2018 is Chinese– worth 43 trillion pounds ($54 billion), double the proportion from 15 years earlier.

Britain claimed that its ban of Huawei is driven by its own security concerns and fears that U.S. sanctions would threaten the supply of Huawei equipment.
