On Wednesday, Jakarta’s Governor Anies Baswedan announced that coronavirus prevention measures would soon be reinstated following an increase in new infections.
The new restrictions will be almost identical to those imposed from April to June when public transport was restricted, and restaurant dining was prohibited. From Monday, working from offices will be prohibited.
This month, Jakarta has been reporting more than 1,000 new coronavirus infections daily. Jakarta has reported 43,400 coronavirus infections in total, as well as 1,330 fatalities.
Governor Anies Baswedan said in a statement:
“Right now, this is an emergency — more pressing than the start of the pandemic,”
“This is about saving Jakarta residents. If we let it go on, the hospitals would not be able to take in (more patients) and deaths will increase,”
