On Thursday, a large blaze engulfed the port of Beirut, enveloping parts of the Lebanese capital in a cloud of smoke just weeks after a large explosion ravaged the port and surrounding area.
The fire emerged in the port’s damaged duty-free zone, causing many people to evacuate the city already traumatized by the ammonium nitrate explosion last month.
Firefighters fought the blaze as water was poured on the blaze by army helicopters in an attempt at suppressing the fire.
Sources claim that the fire began after cooking oil caught fire and spread to nearby tires stored in a warehouse.
Officials claim there is no fear of another explosion as a result of the fire
No immediate injures or fatalities have been reported.
